BROOKE SHIELDS has trained her eldest daughter to deal with the paparazzi photographers who hound the actress and her family.
Shields shares two daughters - Rowan Frances, five, and Grier Hammond, two - with her TV-writer husband Chris Henchy, and she reveals the constant press attention she gets when out with her girls has prompted her to teach Rowan how to react.
The actress says, “(Rowan) will say, `Mom, paparazzi.’ It’s sad to me that she even knows the word. But then I said, `What do you do about that?’ and she said, ‘Well, I look straight ahead and I don’t look them in the eye.’
“So there’s the sense of don’t let them invade. They’re going to be there; let’s not let them ruin our day or our life. And I think that’s a slightly healthier way of dealing with it.”

IT didn’t take long for Apple billionaire Steve Wozniak to get over our favorite comic, Kathy Griffin. “His secretary called me to say he was dating someone else. And then three weeks after he met this woman, he married her!” Griffin told us at Ben Silverman and NBC’s Upfront party the other night at the Empire Hotel. Griffin isn’t too broken up, though - “We were really just friends anyway.” Meanwhile, Silverman’s mom, Mary, held court at the St. Tropez Tan-sponsored party with Brooke Shields, Minka Kelly, Christian Slater and a pregnant Amy Poehler.

In part 1 of his 2 part interview with Oprah Winfrey, Tom Cruise is asked a lot of questions regarding things that have dogged him in his recent past. And actually he gives a reasonably normal and rational interview. Cruise’s interview with Oprah Winfrey Friday was sparked by the 25th anniversary of the release of “Ricky Business,” but was more about fixing his ailing public image.
The two (Cruise and Winfrey) hadn’t been together since the famous couch jumping interview and Oprah admitted to being a little nervous going into revisiting with Tom. UsWeekly provided some quotes from the interview. So asked about the couch incident, Tom calmly explains that he jumped on Oprah’s couch because he was just “so in loveâ€? with Katie Holmes, and he didn’t know how else to express it.
Cruise tells Winfrey, “I just felt that way, and I feel that way about her. I can’t even articulate it, to be honest,� he adds. “That feeling, that connection. Just who she is and what she means to me.�
Of the negative response to his couch jumping, Cruise says, “It just kind of kept going. Those things I kind of go, ‘You just have to take in stride.’ It just kind of became a confluence of things.�
Well at least he seems to at least be able to understand that the results weren’t a great thing for his career.
Next Tom’s asked about freaking out on Matt Lauer, when discussing psychiatry and the use of anti-depressant drugs and Brooke Shields, a few weeks following the Oprah couch jumping. Tom says that he regretted criticizing Brooke Shields, who admitted to taking Paxil for post-partum depression. He says he regrets mentioning her in any way but is glad it helped bring them together now as friends.
“I was feeling pressed in the interview with Matt Lauer,� Cruise says. “For me, my issue was really about child drugging. It’s not like it is today, like people are really kind of openly talking about this.�
(Cruise now says of medicating children, “I think the parent should be able to and should make that decision.�)
Winfrey next questions whether Cruise feels people negatively target him because of his Scientology involvement:
“It’s a minority religion, and I think that sometimes people misinterpret [it],” he says. “I think the best thing is for people to read about it themselves. I believe people have the right to choose what they believe in.
“The code of Scientologists says you respect the religious beliefs of others,” Cruise adds. “That’s part of being a Scientologist, and that’s who I am as a person.”
In January, videos leaked online of Cruise at Scientology events discussing the religion. He says of the video footage leaking online in January:
“It was stolen. I was receiving an award that evening for global literacy. It was a very private moment. I’m actually talking to my congregation. It’s [taken] totally out of context,” he adds.

BROOKE Shields is laying off the high heels while “Lipstick Jungle” is on hiatus. Shields’ new footwear will be a cast. A pal told us, “She is having surgery on her foot.” A rep for Shields said, “Yes, she is having surgery on a tendon. It’s from an old injury she got from dancing on Broadway. It’s the second surgery she’s had on it.” Shields, who’s been working since she was a toddler, reinjured the foot while performing in “Chicago.”

As part of Fashion Week,  a star-studded benefit was held at the United Nations sponsored by Gucci Wednesday night. Madonna, Chris Rock and many other celebrities raised $3.7 million to help poor and sick children around the world.Â
The $2,500-a-plate dinner and live auction hosted by Chris Rock was an unusual blend of charity and commercial promotion for the U.N.. It made some of its officials, including Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, uneasy, because the U.N. had never before granted permission to a company to erect tents on the north lawn of the U.N. for such a lavish event with a commercial tie-in.
Gucci, paid the costs, and more or less dedicated the event to the Friday opening of its Manhattan flagship store on Fifth Avenue and put its logo and UNICEF’s behind the walkway where celebrities were photographed.
Alicia Barcena Ibarra, Ban’s undersecretary general for administration and management, said her office “should have investigated more fully” before it approved UNICEF’S request to hold the event. Barcena Ibarra said she did not believe it was correct for Gucci to publicize the event in conjunction with the opening of a new store “and I think we have to look into that.”
Ban nonetheless told reporters Tuesday he was confident there would be no problems.
Despite the commercial promotion tensions, Gucci lured some of the biggest celebrities in the world to their party. The red-carpet reception drew stars such as Drew Barrymore, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, Amy Adams, Brooke Shields, Salma Hayek, Djimon Hounsou, Dita Von Teese and UNICEF Ambassadors Tea Leoni and Lucy Liu, followed by a cocktail party with the likes of Donald Trump and media mogul Barry Diller.
And the Celebrities paid $2,500 to $10,000 each to dine on grappa-cured salmon, wild striped bass, tart of goat cheese, foraged mushrooms, truffled mashed potatoes and sticky toffee pudding with creme fraiche.
Madonna played videos of Malawi and introduced children from the southern African country. Rihanna, Timbaland and Alicia Keys played music afterward.
The celebrity auction was a big success.
Tom Cruise bid $100,000 for a sports package that included the privilege of hanging out at Yankee Stadium with Alex Rodriguez and a private hour playing soccer with David Beckham, but lost out to a bidder who stepped up with $350,000.
A trip to Paris with a tour of a vineyard and lunch with Francois-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek went for $120,000. The priciest auction item was a tour with Madonna and take a dance class with her and Gwyneth Paltrow, which brought in a winning bid of $600,000.

Saw this article for the Miley Cyrus fans out there and thought I would share. There is probably no explanation for why people are willing to pay more than $2,000 for a ticket to the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus tour. Or why is “Hannah Montana” the most popular show ever on the Disney Channel, drawing 5.4 million viewers? Where does she find the energy? Kelly Osbourne and new best friend Kate Moss partied till the small hours this morning, after celebrating Chicago’s 10th anniversary on the London stage.
Kelly, 23, wore a daring plunging corset style top to the anniversary theatre performance, revealing a lipstick kiss nestled daringly close to her cleavage.
But the reality TV star was on best behaviour for dinner with Moss and her boyfriend Jamie Hince, wearing a lady-like black satin shift dress for dinner at Nobu.
Then they were whisked off to a do at fashion photographer Mario Testino’s house where they partied with the fashion elite.
Earlier that evening, Chicago performers from the past decade including Denise Van Outen reunited for a charity performance of the musical about two murderous chorus girls and a razzle-dazzle showbusiness lawyer.
Kelly Osbourne, who recently played Mama Morton, told reporters: “It’s the best thing I have ever done in my life. The story line is so before its time.”
The London revival of the musical, first staged in New York back in 1975, has survived with a constantly changing cast ranging from Hollywood stars Brooke Shields and Joel Grey to French pop singer Sacha Distel.

Enforcement was strict last night at P. Diddy’s annual White Party - with the rap mogul’s security turning away guests for wearing so much as a stitch of non-white attire. Sources inside told Page Six one unfortunate man was made to strip off his cream-colored pants in the street, in exchange for a pure-white pair provided by Diddy. The over-the-top soirée, held at Diddy’s East Hampton waterfront mansion, featured painted geishas strolling the grounds, Polynesian dancers, a jazz band and a circus performer twirling six spinning rings. Mariah Carey (above left), Star Jones (far left) and hubby Al Reynolds, and Donna Karan (near left) were among the celebs who managed to follow the rigid dress-code regulations. At one point, he got on his back and kicked his legs in the air, just like in the movie!

When you think of model Brooke Shields, you probably think of that infamous, public battle that she had with Tom Cruise or perhaps you think of postpardom depression itself.

Jessica Vs. Ashlee: It’s War!
Remember the good old days when Jessica and Ashlee Simpson were best friends? Like the hair colors they’re now sporting and the guys they are seeing, the relationship between the once-close siblings is no longer what it used to be. While their reps insist the sisters are still close, a tsunami seems to be building. “There’s certainly a sibling rivalry between them,� a source close to the two tells Star. Nicole Wasting Away Again!
Like always, Nicole Richie made heads turn in Australia during her visit to Sydney’s Taronga Zoo with rocker beau, Joel Madden, on April 30th. But it wasn’t just the starlet’s famous face – it was her bony chest, spindly arms and bony shoulders. Her scary-thin appearance recalls shocking pictures of her on Malibu beach in August 2006. Nicole seemed to be getting healthier showing off a shapelier figure and a fuller, prettier face; sources confirm that she’s heading back to her life-threatening ways! Stars Welcome Posh & Becks to Hollywood!
Now that Victoria and David Beckham have signed the papers on their $22 million Beverly Hills “Beckingham Palace,� Hollywood A-listers flock like moths to a bonfire. A source tells Star, “Victoria has had calls from Tyra Banks and Demi Moore, as well as Catherine Zeta Jones, who wanted to show support for a fellow Brit.� Demi is even vying with Catherine to throw Posh her first “welcome to Lost Angeles Party,� says the insider. The star-studded “Team Vick� includes Roseanne Barr, novelist Jackie Collins and Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria. Posh may have ulterior motives, she is hoping that Eva can set up a meeting with Desperate Housewives’ producers, which help Posh score a cameo role on the show. The Source adds “Victoria wants to do appearances here and there on some top-rated programs. She’s spoken to Simon Cowell about appearing on American Idol.� Posh has already made several goof friends on her frequent visits – Brooke Shields sent her flowers, j-Lo has been taking fashion tips, and Katie Holmes, Vic’s closest friend, and favorite shopping partner. Rumor has it that booted AI contestant Chris Richardson may soon be dating The Hills hottie Lauren Conrad behind the back of his hometown girlfriend, Gayle Barnett. And that’s a situation Chris is already used to, says a source- who claims Chris and Gayle began romancing while her then husband was fighting in Iraq! “Gayle was still married when she first met Chris in the early summer of 2003, when he was hired as a fry cook at the Hooters in his hometown of Chesapeake, Va.,� the source tells Star. “They started dating, and they didn’t try to keep it a secret. Gayle was still wearing her wedding ring, and everyone knew she was married, including Chris. Apparently neither of them cared.� Local Virginia newspapers recently featured a number of interviews with Gayle, 26, who is always describes as Chris’s “girlfriend of four years.� But according to Virginia Beach Circuit Court documents, in her June 2005 divorce filing against her husband, she lists their separation date as September 2004- more than a year after the source says she and Chris began dating!
