Former President Bill Clinton and actress Gina Gershon are slamming a new Vanity Fair article that implies they had an affair.
In a story titled “The Comeback Id,” National editor Todd Purdum — who is wed to former Clinton press secretary Dee Dee Myers — writes that Clinton’s personality has changed since his 2004 heart bypass surgery and that there were reports of President Clinton “seeing a lot of women on the road.”
He writes that, according to “recent high-end Hollywood dinner-party gossip … Clinton has been seen visiting with the actress Gina Gershon in California.”
Gershon’s rep tells Usmagazine.com: “Todd Purdum’s insinuation is a lie, and it is irresponsible journalism. We are demanding a retraction.”
(A rep for Vanity Fair tells Us: “Todd Purdum’s article does not indicate that former president Bill Clinton had an improper relationship with Gina Gershon. The story merely examines the concerns of some of Clinton’s aides about reports of his behavior. We don’t believe that any correction is warranted.”)
President Clinton also denied the claims, calling Purdum “sleazy” and a “scumbag.” (”He’s one of the guys that propagated all those lies about Whitewater for Kenneth Starr,” Clinton said. “He’s just a dishonest guy — can’t help it.”)
He also told the Huffington Post that the article is an attempt to discredit his wife Hillary Clinton.
(A rep for Hillary’s campaign has since apologized, saying that President Clinton used “inappropriate” language.)
Purdum defended himself on CNN , saying he was “very careful to say there is no clear-cut evidence that President Clinton has done anything improper.”
“I reject the notion that I’m making an insinuation,” he added. “But I’m very comfortable quoting the people I quote because I know who they are, and I know that they are very senior people who have known President Clinton for a very long time and work for him at very high levels.”

A Vanity Fair article entitled “The Comeback Id,� alleges that former President Bill Clinton was “seeing a lot of women on the road� and “running with a fast crowd.�
According to the article written by Todd Purdum, the national editor for Vanity Fair, Clinton’s behavior was getting so out of control that an assistant considered an intervention.
Todd writes that, “Clinton has been seen visiting with the actress Gina Gershon in California. There has been talk of a female friend in Chappaqua, a woman in a bar at a meeting of the Aspen Institute, and a public sighting of Clinton, Bing, and a ravishing entourage in a New York elevator that, a former Clinton aide told me, led a business leader who saw them to say: I don’t know what the guy was doing, but it was so clear that it was just no good.”
Clinton responded by calling Todd “sleazy” and “slimy.” Takes one to know one?
CNN interviewed the Vanity Fair author Todd Purdum who is married to Clinton’s former White House press secretary, Dee Dee Myers, asking him about the ex-president’s rebuttal. Purdum says that his article doesn’t insinuate anything about Clinton; he simply is reporting some of the concerns about people who know Clinton. Sounds like gossip?
Gina Gershon’s rep told E! News, “Todd Purdum’s insinuation is a lie and is irresponsible journalism. We are demanding a retraction.” Gershon’s lawyers noted that “Gershon has only been in the same room as President Clinton on three occasions,” all with many others present. The lawyers slipped in a shot at Vanity Fair, claiming, “Rumor-mongering was substituted for fact-checking.”

In their July issue, Vanity Fair hints that the former President Bill Clinton may have had an affair with actress Gina Gershon. An excerpt from the article:
Over the last few years, aides have winced at repeated tabloid reports about Clinton’s episodic friendship and occasional dinners out with Belinda Stronach, a twice-divorced billionaire auto-parts heiress and member of the Canadian Parliament 20 years his junior, or at more recent high-end Hollywood dinner-party gossip that Clinton has been seen visiting with the actress Gina Gershon in California. With his penchant for oral sex, is anyone actually surprised that Bill Clinton would be linked to Gina Gershon? That chick’s mouth has cut down more wood than Paul Bunyan. The only thing that surprises me about this article is that it doesn’t mention the other famous mouths Clinton has lusted after — like Angelina Jolie’s, Scarlett Johansson’s, and Steven Tyler’s.
