A dethroned Miss Nevada USA agreed Wednesday to pay fines for five misdemeanor traffic violations in exchange for prosecutors dropping a charge of resisting arrest.
Katherine N. “Katie” Rees, 23, avoided trial by entering no contest pleas. If she had been convicted of the dropped misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest, she could have faced six months in jail.
“I’m just really glad this is over. It was a really traumatic experience and I’m ready to move on,” Rees said outside the courtroom.
However, Rees and her lawyer, Michael Cristalli, said they are considering filing a federal police brutality and civil rights claim against the two Las Vegas police officers who they allege broke Rees’ front tooth by slamming her against the hood of her car during her arrest Feb. 6.
Rees pleaded no contest to speeding, operating a motor vehicle without proof of insurance and driving with an expired registration, a suspended license and suspended registration. She agreed to pay up to $1,312 in fines.
Cristalli said Rees did not know her license and registration were suspended when she went to buy ice cream at about 3 a.m. She was stopped in a residential area several miles west of the Las Vegas Strip, and complained that she had no phone and way to get home after the officers impounded her car.
“It was only when she asked for assistance to get home that they initiated the arrest and used excessive force causing substantial injury,” Cristalli said.
The Miss Universe Organization and co-owner Donald Trump dethroned Rees in December 2006 after racy photos appeared on the Internet showing her kissing other young women, exposing one of her breasts and pulling down her pants to show her thong underwear at a party in Tampa, Fla.
Rees appeared in court 80 minutes late, wearing a blue silk designer outfit and blue suede four-inch heels. Justice of the Peace Joe M. Bonaventure accepted Cristalli’s apology and explanation that Rees’ tardiness was his fault, not hers.

Star Magazine is reporting that a few months back, Katie Holmes was on an upswing — she had a new movie, a trend-setting haircut and was constantly seen with her look-alike daughter Suri. Katie may never admit it, but sources say her superstar husband may be contributing to the debilitating headaches. His high energy is often hard to keep up with — and that, paired with her intense need to live up to his expectations, is really taking its toll, both mentally and physically.
“Katie doesn’t get enough sleep — and hasn’t for months now,” says one insider. “She’s tired and drained much of the day because Tom is so wired, and they stay awake until after midnight. He has boundless energy, and she just can’t compete.”
To complicate matters even further, while Tom goes off for days at a time (”His rule is ‘You can be with me, but don’t ask about it,’” says a source), Katie is overseeing the interior design of their lavish $35 million Beverly Hills mansion. “To him, the home is a status symbol,” says a source, “so it’s on Katie’s shoulders to pull off something beyond magnificent, something Tom can brag about. She’s giving herself headaches thinking about it and making herself sick.”

Metro Las Vegas police have arrested former Miss Nevada USA Katie Rees in connection with assaulting an officer.
Rees was stopped shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday for a traffic violation. During the stop, police discovered she was driving on a suspended license. When they attempted to arrest her, officers said Rees began to elbow and kick at the police.
She is being held in the Clark County Detention Center in connection with speeding, driving on a suspended license, driving an uninsured vehicle and resisting a police officer. Officials have not said if she will face assault charges in connection with attacking the police officers.
Rees was stripped of her crown at the end of 2006 after pageant officials discovered some provocative photos. Rees said she did not remember taking the pictures. She claims she was treated unfairly by Miss USA officials including Donald Trump, who gave Miss USA Tara Conner a second chance after she was caught drinking in New York bars when she was still underage.

Miss New Jersey Amy Polumbo received another packet of blackmail photos of her over the weekend. The blackmailer threatened to release the original and additional photos unless she resigns her crown.
Supposedly the photos show Polumbo in some compromising positions and were at one point on her Facebook page. Polumbo and her rep’s insist there is nothing wrong or immoral about the photos.
As I said on Friday, all she has to do is release the photos and put the scandal to bed if they are truly not that bad.
If the photos aren’t that bad then Polumbo should just release them. That way it’s a non-story and the blackmailer has no leverage then. However, I think she is enjoying the fame and having her name in the news (imagine that with a pageant girl) that has come with this story.
The photos are bad and damaging or we would have seen them by now. It is also quite possible that Polumbo has created the story herself to gain nationwide attention. Who was Amy Polumbo before this story broke?
She is meeting with Miss America officials to decide what to do.
Polumbo was crowned Miss Seashore Line on the local level that allowed her to compete in the Miss New Jersey pageant. Her platform ironically enough is internet safety.

Another pageant beauty scandal is growing. This time it involves Miss New Jersey Amy Polumbo and sexy photos she had on her Facebook page in the past. The captions on the photos are troubling Polumbo the most according to her attorney.
Miss New Jersey, 22-year-old Amy Polumbo, announced Thursday that someone was trying to blackmail her with old photographs and a demand that she give up her crown by Friday. Her refusal to give in and speculation about the photos made her a star of the moment - at least in the world of tabloid newspapers and Internet gossip blogs.
But by Friday Polumbo’s lawyer, Anthony Caruso, said it was actually captions on the photographs that troubled the beauty queen, not racy images.
Caruso won’t say what the photos show, except to say it’s nothing especially revealing - certainly nothing more revealing than the bikini Polumbo wore during the Miss New Jersey competition. He also declined to reveal what the captions said.
Meanwhile, the Wagner College student didn’t step down. And the photos - and captions - that caused all the commotion didn’t appear to have been made public.
If the photos aren’t that bad then Polumbo should just release them. That way it’s a non-story and the blackmailer has no leverage then. However, I think she is enjoying the fame and having her name in the news (imagine that with a pageant girl) that has come with this story.

Disgraced former Miss Nevada Katie Rees is enjoying her reign as Miss Sin City since losing her Miss Nevada USA title over alcohol, drugs and erotic girl-on-girl photos.
Katie lived large at the Bare Pool and Lounge at the Mirage in Las Vegas over the weekend, though in typical Rees fashion, she flaunted the rules of the hotspot — by leaving her top on. (Bare is a topless pool, and by “topless,” we don’t mean “open-air.”)

Tara Conner is hitting the publicity circuit, now that she’s out of rehab and soon to be replaced after the new 2007 Miss America is chosen this month. She recently sat down with Myrtle Beach native, Nancy O’Dell for an interview for Access Hollywood. Let’s listen in shall we?
“I feel one million times better,” she added.
Conner, who entered a Pennsylvania rehab facility on December 21, 2006, said she has just passed her 90 days of sobriety (94 days as of March 15, 2007) and said that she is sensing things that she never felt before.
“Yeah, I was completely numb. When I got my 90 day chip or coin I cried…I will cry when I am happy or I will get so excited…” Conner added that her next sobriety milestone she is aiming for is her “one year” and said that “is going to be great, God-willing, I will make it there.” (source)
I know this probably inappropriate, but that sounds sad and dirty and it kinda turns me on. Everyone knows that chicks in rehab are easy… because they’re quitters. The reason I pointed out that Nancy O’Dell is from Myrtle Beach is to make a point about being a southern girl and making sure you keep your ass between the ditches. Nancy O’Dell rose through the ranks as a journalist on several respected southeastern news stations to become a poised, attractive television personality. Sure, she had her whore phase, (who doesn’t) but she had the decency to do that shit behind closed doors.
Tara Conner, on the other hand typifies the naiveté of the rebel choir girl gone bad who hits the big city only to find out that the world is a lot bigger and a lot more soul crushing than she could have imagined. Back home she was daddy’s little princess and the hot thang who landed the guy with the biggest lift kit on his 4X4 - to the envy of all the other country girls. But to big city(i.e the world outside), she was just another 20 year old with an appetite for destruction that all too easily accommodated. My point? It’s better to burn out than fade away, bitches! Reformed Miss USA Tara Conner admits to PEOPLE that she used cocaine and tried nearly anything and everything under the sun before checking herself into rehab two months ago.
“Cocaine was one of the drugs that I did use. It’s hard to look back at that,” she tells PEOPLE in its new issue. “I was an equal-opportunity [user] – I would try anything once.”
It was alcohol, she says, that had the biggest hold on her. Citing a family history of alcoholism, Conner says that for many years she was “a functioning alcoholic. If I got caught [drinking], I would stop – I was able to do that.”

Miss Oklahoma Lauren Nelson won the 2007 Miss America pageant on Monday night. She is the second straight Miss Oklahoma to win the prestigious title. Miss America is the Playboy to Miss USA’s Penthouse/Hustler image.
Nelson was crowned by last year’s winner, Jennifer Berry. Nelson, a blonde who told judges she wishes she was taller, sang “You’ll Be In My Heart” in the talent competition and plans to promote protecting children online during her yearlong reign as Miss America.
“I watched Miss America as a little girl since I was 2 years old, and never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would be one of those girls on that stage, and never did I think that I would be Miss America,” she said afterward.
She gets a $50,000 (euro38,700) scholarship with the crown and stands to make thousands more in appearance fees.
The last state to win back-to-back titles was Mississippi, when Mary Ann Mobley crowned Lynda Mead as Miss America in 1960.
Congrats to Lauren and hopefully she can stay out of trouble unlike Miss USA Tara Conner and Miss Nevada Katie Rees have been able to do.

Former Miss Nevada, Katie Rees, told Inside Edition over the weekend that losing her Miss Nevada crown left her “shocked and devastated.� Rees was stripped of the title after racy photos of her kissing her girlfriends and exposing her breasts were released to the media. Rees adds:
“I’m not proud at all, but what is done is done, and all I can do is move forward.” Rees said the pictures were taken three years before she was crowned Miss Nevada and added, “We were just out being goofy girls and celebrating. Katie Rees, the dethroned Miss Nevada USA, has appologized for photos of her that turned up online and on this site this week.
Here are some excerpts from Katie’s news conference.
In a press conference held Saturday in Clearwater Beach, Fla., Rees, 22, said, “These images were from an isolated incident during my teenage years, long before my consideration to compete in the Miss USA program. While I take full responsibility for the photographs…This incident does not reflect who I am or who I plan to be. I am so sorry this happened.”
Rees went on to say she hopes her experience will serve as a cautionary tale to other young women. “Please don’t let your guard down when it comes to being photographed,” she said. “As you can see, just one mistake can have great consequences.”
Her attorney is also trying to get her reinstated as Miss Nevada USA.
Her attorney, Mario Torres, tells PEOPLE that they have contacted the Trump Organization (Donald Trump co-owns the Miss Universe Organization with NBC) to request that Rees be reinstated as Miss Nevada USA.
The photos were taken when Rees was 19. She is 22 now and probably decided to enter the Miss Nevada USA prelim pageants when she was around 20 or 21 at the latest. The photos therefore weren’t taken that long before she won the crown. Pageant girls are the world’s biggest hypocrites when it comes to what they say and what they actually do.
Having been a celebrity judge for a national teen pageant three years ago, I found it to be an eye opening experience to witness the brain washing of these women, their wildness, and their inability to answer many simple questions during the interview part of the competition.  The photos that started it all.

Another Miss USA contestant has taken a tumble.
Miss Nevada USA was stripped of her title Thursday after racy photos of her appeared on the Internet, pageant officials said. Some of the photos show Katie Rees, 22, kissing other young women, exposing one of her breasts and pulling down her pants to show her thong underwear at a party in Tampa, Fla.
“Katie Rees has been relieved of her duties as Miss Nevada USA 2007,” said Paula M. Shugart, president of the Miss Universe Organization, which owns the Miss USA pageant and others.
Rees’ dismissal comes two days after Miss USA Tara Conner was allowed to keep her tiara when she agreed to go into alcohol rehab and a day after an anti-drunken driving group cut its ties with hard-partying Miss Teen USA Katie Blair.
Pageant officials declined to provide a telephone number for Rees and said they didn’t know when the photos of her were taken.
Rees’ attorney, Mario Torres, of Tampa, defended the blonde beauty queen in a statement sent to the entertainment television show “Extra.”
“Katie Rees Miss Nevada USA wants the public to know she was 17 and had a lapse in judgment,” he said. “The actions on that evening in subject are in no way indicative of the person she is or the person she has become. … She is a law-abiding citizen and talented adult. This was an isolated incident that occurred more than five years ago when she was a minor.”
Shugart made the decision to jettison Rees, and pageant co-owner Donald Trump supported it, said Miss Universe Organization spokeswoman Lark-Marie Anton.
Trump, who co-owns Miss Universe with NBC, gave Conner, 21, a second chance after meeting with her Tuesday. Trump said Conner, who agreed to undergo drug testing, was a good person with a good heart and deserved to keep her title.
“I think Tara is going to be the great comeback kid,” Trump said during his televised announcement, with a teary-eyed Conner by his side.
Apparently, there will be no comeback for Rees, whose reign was truncated because of the photos.
Rees has appeared as Miss Nevada USA at charity events such as the Goodie Two Shoe Giveaway, at which underprivileged students received free shoes, backpacks and school supplies.
Shugart said first runner-up Helen Salas will assume the title and compete at the next Miss USA pageant on March 23 in Los Angeles.
On Wednesday, Mothers Against Drunk Driving announced it was ditching Blair, the Miss Teen USA, because it was “disappointed” by news reports that the 18-year-old from Billings, Mont., had been spotted partying with Miss USA in New York clubs.
